8 to 5 Energy Saver™

Sample Image The Generation 3 8to5 Energy Saver™ converts existing T12 & T8 fluorescent fittings to high efficiency T5 lighting systems.

The 8to5 Energy Saver™ is a high frequency Electronic Control Gear, (ECG), which allows you to change your inefficient and outdated T8 and T12 fluorescent lamps to the new, energy saving and environmentally friendly T5 fluorescent lamp without the need to change the existing fitting.

Simple and easy installation of the 8to5 Energy Saver™ into older style T8 or T12 fittings enables energy saving T5 fluorescent lamps to be installed and used immediately with up to 55% energy savings, improved light output, lower maintenance costs and, large recycling and CO2 benefits for the environment.

New T5 Technology

The T5 is a very efficient sleek 16mm light tube, providing excellent light output with a lifespan of over 20,000 hours and energy savings of up to 55%. It is environmentally friendly, containing 38% less glass with only a little mercury compared to the older tubes.

The 8to5 Energy Saver™ Solution

The 8to5 Energy Saver™ is designed to bridge the gap between T8/T12 fixtures and the shorter T5 tube. It also incorporates a new specially designed high frequency ballast called Electronic Control Gear (ECG) that is designed to work specifically with the T5 fluorescent light tubes.

It is the electronic ballast, which provides excellent energy efficiency and also stops all the slow starts experienced with many T8 and all T12 fittings. This ballast operates at 35,000 Hz so the is no stroboscopic flickering, which is the cause of headaches and eye problems for many employees and is acknowledged to be a health and safety issue.

Depending on your electricity costs, the conversion to T5 fluorescent light tubes with the 8to5 Energy Saver™ electronic control gear adapter has a payback time of approximately 2 years.

A Brief History of the Outdated T12 and T8 Technology

Standard fluorescent light fittings in most commercial buildings use the large diameter T12 or T8 light tube. The T12 has a 35mm (1.5") diameter, the T8 slightly smaller at 25mm (1").

Most T12 and T8 fluorescent light fittings use very inefficient electromagnetic ballast which have a frequency of 100 Hz and are a cause of lamp flickering which is associated with these older fittings.

There is enough mercury in a 6 foot T8/T12 fluorescent tube to pollute 30,000 litres of drinking water if it were to leak into the water table.

Summary

The simplest and most economical way to use the energy saving T5 lamps in existing T8/T12 fittings is to use the 8to5 Energy Saver™, incorporating an extremely efficient high frequency electronic ballast.

The life time of the T5 tube is 20,000 hours and the life time of the 8to5 Energy Saver™ is around 50,000 hours, and at 10 hours per day on a 6 day a week average that is over 15 years. This means a significant reduction in replacement and maintenance costs!

Installation

The 8to5 Energy Saver™ is currently the only T5 adaptor that has been designed in accordance with LIF/CELMA installation and safety concerns. The 8to5 Energy Saver™ units is simple and quick to install and requires a qualified electrician for this purpose.

When the 8to5 Energy Saver™ is installed it does not use ANY of the existing wiring, fittings or control gear and is in fact an independent T5 lighting unit with full AS/NZ and BS EN standards and a 2 year warranty.

In most common fluorescent fittings, the 8to5 Energy Saver™ can be quickly installed giving immediate benefits. Even on complex multi-tube recessed fittings, which may require minor modifications the 8to5 Energy Saver™ can be installed in minutes giving better quality lighting with reduced energy costs ~ and helping the environment with reduced CO2.
